This is what I get excited about

by Abbey Duke, Founder & CEO

Last year I harvested our first cherry tomatoes from Sugarsnap’s hoophouse on July 17. This is what farmers think about, all of the time. What happened last year, how does it compare to this year, what can I do to make it better for next year (and it can always be better.)

Well…I believe this year is better than last year. Some of the cherry tomato plants are already fruiting. Even if it takes two to three weeks for them to ripen up it seems that we will have tomatoes a couple weeks earlier than last year. We will also have peppers and eggplant coming from the farm earlier than we did last year.

This might not seem important to many people, and in the grand scheme of things it isn’t. I like to believe, however, that the fresh produce that we grow at the farm makes the food that is made in the kitchen taste just a little bit better. Maybe these tomatoes-to-come will make somebody’s wedding dinner not just “great” but “amazing”. Of course, the real magic comes from the kitchen and the rest of the team at Sugarsnap but I think that the farm really adds something special.
