My favorite plant family

by Abbey Duke, Founder & CEO

Okay, so I have a little bit of a love affair with peppers. Actually everything in the solanaceae family is great, like tomatoes, eggplant, and potatoes. They are such amazing plants that produce some of the most unique flavors and textures.

This Friday I harvested 65 pounds of jalapeno peppers, which are what are pictured here. The hot and dry weather has pushed the pepper plants, as well as the eggplant and tomatoes, to high production levels and it also makes the fruit sweeter. Most of these will be used to make pickled jalapenos which are great on so many dishes. There is something spectacular about the combination of the slight heat and sweetness of the pepper mixed with the sharpness on vinegar. They are my favorite topping on tacos and many of Mexican themed dishes.
